Kintamani is not Ubud. You go up there for one thing: the view of Batur and its lake. Everything else comes second. So the hotel matters a lot here: depending on where you sleep, you wake up with the volcano in front of you… or a wall of fog.
Ridge or lakeside?
On the ridge, around Penelokan, you get the plunging view over the caldera, but also the main road. Down below, by the lake near Toya Bungkah, you are at the foot of the volcano, close to the hot springs and the start of the hikes.

Simple and clean, with a terrace facing the lake and the volcano. You come for the view, not for luxury, and the view is there. Bring a jumper: nights are cool.
